Fathers Day

One of the best things about having Amelia join our family, has been watching Kevin become a dad.

When Kevin is home, Amelia has Kevins full attention, and can usually be found wrapped up in his arms.

Or taking a quick nap together at lunch time...or on a Sunday afternoon.

Or in the boat enjoying family time at the lake.

A few weeks ago Kevin went to lunch with a friend and took Amelia along.  (I was working.)  The waitress said to Kevin, "Mom must be really brave!"
I am not brave, I know that Kevin is an amazing dad, and Amelia is perfectly safe and happy with him.

I am grateful that Breanna could see what a great father Kevin would be.

I love these striped pj's on her.  Every time she wears them, they get smaller and smaller on her.

First Adjustment

Amelia is such a good baby that when she woke up fussy and kept it up for a few hours, I knew she wasn't feeling well.  We decided to go visit Dad to get her feeling better.

All better!

1 Month

Amelia is starting to stay awake a little longer in between feedings and not sleep all the time.  There are a few things that I do not want to forget about this magical baby time.

The sounds she makes when drinking her bottle.
Her milk mustache and milk induced coma face when she is done drinking her bottle.
Her loud burps.
That she hates to be naked, diaper changes, clothes change, bath time.
How bright eyed she is at her 3am feeding, and how she stares into my eyes while slowly drinking all 4 oz.
Her left eye is still a little swollen and in her sleepy state she only opens her right eye.

Meeting Family

One thing is for sure, Amelia will always have plenty of family and friends to love on her.  Our home has had visitors coming and going since Amelia came home with us.  It is amazing watching family meet Amelia and instantly love her.
-Aunt Amy thinks we named Amelia after her, since they are kind of the same name?
Amy is competing for the title of "Favorite Aunt"

-Our nephew Ty calles her Babia, rather than Baby Amelia.  And he loves kissing her on the head.

We had such a good time meeting the Barton Family on Sunday.  We love that Amelia will know her birth family and have relationships with them. Thank you for the gifts, and accepting us as family.  Amelia loves her swing, it puts her right to sleep.

Top 10-March

Top 10 will be our favorite photos from the month.

This is photo is priceless of Breanna and Amelia in the hospital.

Kevin holding Amelia and her staring up at him.

Any time Amelia squeaks while taking a nap, Ace runs into the room, jumps on the bed and makes sure she is okay.  He is such a good brother!

Breannas first visit to see us after placement.

Amelias eyes are so alert and wide open after her baths.

Enjoying the spring air with Ace on our daily walks.  Amelia loves the stroller.

Amelia started sucking her thumb.  When she sucks her thumb, her fingers are always extended straight, usually covering her face.

Tummy Time, she is getting so strong!

Her bright eyes.

Strengthening neck muscles.

First Bath

It was just a sponge bath, but Amelia did NOT like being naked and wet.  We had warmed towels laid out to be soft and cozy, but that didn't seem to matter.  As soon as her clothes came off, the crying started.  It was a fast wipe down.

As soon as I wrapped her up in a towel, she stopped fussing and was happy as a clam.

Bath time has gotten better, she doesn't cry or fuss anymore.  But I wouldn't say she likes her baths.  She does however like being wrapped up in a warm towel at the end.

Week One

Meeting Amelia for the 1st time

We keep getting the same 2 questions from people:
New Dad
"How are you adjusting to parenthood?"

Honestly, maybe it's because I wasn't pregnant, and I am not healing from a labor and delivery, but it's not that big of a change.  Yes we are more sleep deprived, (Kevin has fallen asleep at 8:15 watching tv the past 2 nights) but we do all the same things we did before Baby, just as a family of 3 now.

New Mama
"Is it all you thought it would be?"

I'm not sure what I "thought" parenthood it would be.  It's heavenly.  Amelia is a perfect baby, she doesn't really cry, she is a great sleeper.  Sleep, Eat, Poop, repeat.  That is our day and I love every minute of it.

Amelia Meeting Ace

While preparing to adopt, I read all about how to introduce family pets to new babies joining the family.

1. Getting Ace used to the sounds and smells of what a new baby will bring
Setting up Amelias nursery was the first step.  We opened all packages and boxes with Ace present so he could sniff them out to make sure they were okay for his soon to be baby sister.

2. Introductions should not be at home
Introductions were at Kevins moms house the day after Amelia joined our family. (She had been watching Ace for us).

3. Use a blanket as the first introduction, letting Ace sniff, smell and lick the blanket
Kevin went into the house with a blanket that Amelia had been sleeping in, a few minutes later Ace ran out to the car to see just what that new smell was.  We brought Amelia inside and introduced her to her brother Ace.

Ace is adjusting to being a brother like a champ.  Any time Amelia cries, Ace runs into her room to make sure she is okay.  We count ourselves lucky, the only time she cries is when we are changing her diaper and clothes, she hates to be cold and naked.
