First Bath

It was just a sponge bath, but Amelia did NOT like being naked and wet.  We had warmed towels laid out to be soft and cozy, but that didn't seem to matter.  As soon as her clothes came off, the crying started.  It was a fast wipe down.

As soon as I wrapped her up in a towel, she stopped fussing and was happy as a clam.

Bath time has gotten better, she doesn't cry or fuss anymore.  But I wouldn't say she likes her baths.  She does however like being wrapped up in a warm towel at the end.

Week One

Meeting Amelia for the 1st time

We keep getting the same 2 questions from people:
New Dad
"How are you adjusting to parenthood?"

Honestly, maybe it's because I wasn't pregnant, and I am not healing from a labor and delivery, but it's not that big of a change.  Yes we are more sleep deprived, (Kevin has fallen asleep at 8:15 watching tv the past 2 nights) but we do all the same things we did before Baby, just as a family of 3 now.

New Mama
"Is it all you thought it would be?"

I'm not sure what I "thought" parenthood it would be.  It's heavenly.  Amelia is a perfect baby, she doesn't really cry, she is a great sleeper.  Sleep, Eat, Poop, repeat.  That is our day and I love every minute of it.

Amelia Meeting Ace

While preparing to adopt, I read all about how to introduce family pets to new babies joining the family.

1. Getting Ace used to the sounds and smells of what a new baby will bring
Setting up Amelias nursery was the first step.  We opened all packages and boxes with Ace present so he could sniff them out to make sure they were okay for his soon to be baby sister.

2. Introductions should not be at home
Introductions were at Kevins moms house the day after Amelia joined our family. (She had been watching Ace for us).

3. Use a blanket as the first introduction, letting Ace sniff, smell and lick the blanket
Kevin went into the house with a blanket that Amelia had been sleeping in, a few minutes later Ace ran out to the car to see just what that new smell was.  We brought Amelia inside and introduced her to her brother Ace.

Ace is adjusting to being a brother like a champ.  Any time Amelia cries, Ace runs into her room to make sure she is okay.  We count ourselves lucky, the only time she cries is when we are changing her diaper and clothes, she hates to be cold and naked.

"Adoption is not a breaking of trust but a keeping of faith...not the abandonment of a baby but the abandonment of self for a baby's sake."
